Richard M. Berlin, A twenty-first century William Carlos Williams, Eneken Cultural Revue
Richard M. Berlin has been been called “A twenty-first century William Carlos Williams” by Booklist. He is the author of two chapbooks and three poetry collections including Secret Wounds which was selected by USA Book World as the best general poetry book published in 2011. Richard is a physician with a psychiatric practice in Lenox. He is a Senior Affiliate in Psychiatry at the University of Massachusetts Medical school where he has established the Gerald F. Berlin Creative Writing Award to honor of his father. The Award encourages doctors and nurses in training to write about their experiences as a way to bring them closer to their patients. Richard is the author of more than 60 scientific papers and the editor of two medical books, "Sleep Disorders in Clinical Psychiatry" and "Poets on Prozac: Mental Illness, Treatment, and the Creative Process." Richard's three poetry collections are being translated into Greek by Miltos Arvanitakis, a film maker, physician, and translator. This week, Miltos won the European Institute for Literary Translation Award 2016 for his translation of Richard's first book, How JFK Killed My Father. Miltos is currently completing translations of Secret Wounds and Practice.
